Applicant categories

a) Graduates of the Bachelor’s degree programmes in Theology and Islamic Studies of the School of Theology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

b) Graduates in Theology, Political Sciences, Law, International Relations, Public Administration and Humanities in general from Greek Universities or equivalent institutions abroad.

(c) Graduates of the Higher Military Schools, the School of Officers of the Greek Police, the Fire Brigade and the Coast Guard.

d) Graduates of all faculties and departments interested in the subject matter of the MSc.

Number of students

The maximum number of students is sixty (60) per year.

It is noted that the maximum number of postgraduate students per lecturer, as well as the maximum number of postgraduate students in the MSc, will not exceed 1/3 of the number of undergraduate students and lecturers, in order to ensure the quality of all study cycles.

 

Applications ​

The application forms, together with the supporting documents specified in the announcement, are submitted in digital form to the Administration Office  within the specified deadlines.

The Examination/Selection Committee  is composed of at least three members of the School.

The committee’s task is to

  • Evaluate all the documents submitted in accordance with the legislation in force and with these regulations.
  • Verify language skills (Greek and/or English), if deemed necessary.
  • To conduct personal interviews.
  • Prepare the final ranking of a) the successful candidates, b) the unsuccessful candidates and c) the successful candidates on the basis of the list of criteria of the MSc.

If there are several candidates with the same total number of credits, their final ranking will take into account the degree grade, and if in this case there is a tie, their final ranking will take into account the average of the courses related to the MSc.

Appeals against the final results may be submitted in writing to the Administration Office within five (5) days of the results being posted on the Department’s website.

The successful candidates will be enrolled in the MSc programme within the time limit indicated by the secretariat, providing the supporting documents mentioned in the notification. If one or more successful candidates do not enrol by the deadline, the runners-up, if any, will be invited to enrol for the MSc in the order of their ranking on the approved evaluation list.

 

Supporting Documents ​

2. CV, accompanied by a statement of purpose – motivation for postgraduate studies
3. Photocopy of two sides of a valid identity card or passport.
4. Photocopy of a Bachelor’s Degree, Diploma of Postgraduate Studies, Doctoral Degree. If the candidate holds more than one degree, he/she must submit a copy for all his/her degrees. In addition, holders of foreign degrees will be required to submit a certificate of equivalence from ΔΟΑΤΑΠ (ΔΙΚΑΤΣΑ) or a request for recognition of their qualifications. A Postgraduate Diploma is not awarded to a student whose first cycle degree from a foreign institution has not been recognised by ΔΟΑΤΑΠ (ΔΙΚΑΤΣΑ), in accordance with Law No. 3328/2005 (A’ 80), and based on Art. 34, par. 7 of Law no. 4485/2017 as in force).
Graduates of Higher Educational Institutions who estimate that they will have successfully completed their studies by the start of the programme, should submit a certificate of analytical score, which should include the average grade point average and a solemn declaration stating that they will submit a photocopy of their degree/diploma or a certificate of completion of their studies by the end of the registration date.
5. Certificate of comprehensive marks for all undergraduate programmes of study or Diploma Supplement.
6. Certificate of English language  at B2 level (See Issue A.S.E.P. 24/20.07.2020 Annex B) or any other certificate certifying language proficiency at the specified level. (Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, Doctoral degree of any recognized higher education institution abroad or equivalent diploma of the Greek Schools of Secondary Education). In case the candidate does not hold any qualifications or certificates of English language proficiency, he/she may be examined before a Special Examination Committee, appointed by the Coordinating Committee and composed of members of teaching and research staff with certified competence in English language teaching. Foreign candidates are required to submit a certificate of proficiency in the Greek language, at least at C1 level. (e.g. Certificate from the School of Modern Greek Language of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Diploma of a Greek university, etc.) or to be examined before a Special Examination Committee, which is appointed by the Coordinating Committee and consists of members of the teaching and research staff of the Department of Theology or other Departments.
7. A copy of the thesis (if it has been written). The thesis will be graded only if it was written during undergraduate studies and is indicated in the certificate of analytical marks of the basic degree or other university degrees submitted by the candidate.
8. Evidence of research and writing activity (e.g. publications in conference proceedings or scientific journals (peer-reviewed) or books or monographs of the candidate (if any). Evidence means photocopies of the contents of the proceedings or journal or collective volume, etc., which prove his/her participation).
9. Certificates of professional experience relevant to the MSc. Evidence of professional experience means certificates of previous experience issued by the relevant employer stating the subject and duration of employment of the candidate or corresponding certificates issued by the OAEE in the case of freelance professionals.
10. Any other document certifying the qualifications declared by the candidate(s) when submitting this relevant Application – CV (other degrees and diplomas, certificates, etc.) Any qualification declared without being certified will not be taken into account.

Selection  ​

For the selection of the applicants, apart from the mandatory documents required for their participation (basic – undergraduate degree and a level of knowledge of English language at least B2), they are evaluated and taken into account:
1. Their specific qualifications, as evidenced by the supporting documents submitted in their application (at a rate of 70 %)

2. Their performance during an oral interview (30%).

Criteria will be assessed on a scale from 0 to 100 and each candidate will be awarded a number of points (a.m.) on this scale. The criteria per category, credited with a.m., are listed in the table below.
