Religion, Geopolitics and Global Security

School of Theology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

A New and Innovative MSc

The Postgraduate Programme “Religion Geopolitics and Global Security” addresses the need for a multidisciplinary approach to the multi-level relationship between religion and politics and the role it can play in the maintenance of international security and peace.
A particular feature of the MSc is the approach and understanding of the role of religious and cultural diversity in the context of human resource management and administration in the diverse socio-political environments where Islam is dominant.

Subject – Aim

In recent decades, religion has re-emerged in Western societies in a dynamic way, claiming a central role in the international public sphere. The creation of a more complex mosaic of religions in the contemporary public sphere is due, among other things, to the successive migratory flows that have marked the 21st century.

Religion is internationally intertwined with political, social and economic institutions, contributing to the formation of today’s multicultural society, while at the same time being linked to social tensions and phenomena of violence. This new reality makes it imperative to undertake an interdisciplinary and in-depth study of the role of religion in contemporary political and social life and its contribution to global stability and peace.
